SEA Games 27’s diary: Shooting more gold, Vietnam ranks second

 


During two days of December 11-12, the opening ceremony of SEA Games 27 took place in Nay Pyi Taw city. Therefore, the only game of shooting reached one gold and one silver to help Vietnam rank second on the SEA Games medal tally.

Viet Nam’s Nguyen Thanh Dat won the first shooting title, and a gold medal, yesterday at the 10th SEA Games in Yangon, Myanmar. Dat successfully captured first place in the men’s individual 50m rifle prone event with 201.3 points.


Thailand’s Napis Tortungpanich came in second with 200 points, followed by Lim Wen Abel of Singapore, who received 180.3 points.


Dat’s victory was a surprise to the team, as he is not the highest ranked among the three Vietnamese marksmen competing in this event. In so-doing, Vientma reached 10 golds, 5 silvers and 7 bronzes , ranking second on the tally.On the meanwhile, Myanmar is currently dominating the Games with 21 golds, 13 silvers and 12 bronzes, followed by Vietnam with 16 golds, six silvers and 10 bronzes. On December 12, Vietnam’s sports continue to compete in many games. Notably, 17-year-old swimmer Nguyen Thi Anh Vien scooped another gold medal, in the women’s 200m backstroke, on December 12 at the ongoing 27th SEA Games in Myanmar. Vien’s previous gold made on the day was in the women’s 200m individual medley, marking the first gold medals of Vietnamese women swimmers at regional games so far.Vietnamese badminton player Vu Thi Trang defeated Singapore’s Chen Jiayuan 2-1 (21-19, 18-21, 21-17) in their women’s singles match. Her teammate Nguyen Tien Minh beat Thailand’s Avihingsanon 2-0 to enter the men’s singles semifinals.In the women’s 51kg boxing, Vietnam’s Nguyen Thi Yen beat her Lao opponent to progress to the finals.
